A STUDENT’S RECOUNT OF GROENSCUP 2009

Wassenaar — GroensCup is a sport tournament among teams of all Indonesian students in the Netherlands. It is annually organised by the Indonesian Students Association (PPI) Groningen. That’s why the city of Groningen has become the host of the tournament. This year, there were 16 contingents in the GroensCup that was competed from 9 to 10 May 2009.

There were a lot of games played in the tournament like basketball, futsal (indoor football), table tennis, capsah, chess, and badminton. Our contingent (SIN Wassenaar) participated in basketball and futsal games. For the futsal was the all-SIN’s team; while for the basketball, some of our students joined the KBRI (The Indonesian Embassy) team.

Some teams went there by train and some by bus and car.

On the first day, the competition started at 11.00 a.m. In the basketball we suffered an immediate defeat; while the in the futsal we made it to the quarter final.

The first leg for our futsal team was SIN vs. Maastricht, and we won 5-0. The second was against Tilburg and we won again, 1-0. The third match for the day was SIN vs. Groningen, but we lost 2-1. It was an awesome match.

The next day, we played against the Den Haag-1 team. We lost, 5-0. But it’s great that SIN could make it to the quarter final. And after the game, all the players cleaned up. And we watched together the final for basketball, futsal, and table tennis.

Finally, the basketball was won by the Den Haag team, the futsal was won by the Arnhem team, and the table tennis was won by KBRI. For the badminton, man-single was won by Amsterdam and for the woman-single was won by the KBRI. The Embassy’s also won the table tennis (single and double) and chess. And the capsah was taken by Groningen.

It was a very great two-day event, and at last the winners were given their deserved trophies. And the J.E. Habibie (our Ambassador) trophy was given to the KBRI whose teams won 4 games.

The activity was closed on Sunday, 10 May 2009 around 09.00 p.m Then we all went back home. Some of us who went by train and arrived in Den Haag at 12 p.m. Some of us went by car and arrived around 11.30 p.m.
