SIN WASSENAAR ORGANISES “BHINNEKA TUNGGAL IKA EXHIBITION 2011” AND “KARTINI BLOEMEN PROJECT 2012”
Wassenaar Campus — To commemorate the 83th anniversary of the Indonesian Youth Pledge Day (Hari Sumpah Pemuda), SIN Wassenaar held an event dubbed as the “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Exhibition” on 28 October 2011. This exhibition is attended by the parents and guardians, Dharma Wanita Persatuan of Indonesian Embassy, and the representatives of partner schools (e.g., International School of The Hague and the Candea College). The programme was commenced with the presentation of Indonesian culture by 6 couples of SIN Wassenaar’s students wearing traditioanl costumes representing 6 main Indonesian islands, namely Sumatera, Jawa, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua. The presentation exposed and promoted the cultural heritage, such as tourist resorts, art and dances, food, etc. of the islands. It was then followed by the reciting of the Youth Pledge (Sumpah Pemuda Declaration), poetry reading, and singing the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, and the serving of Indonesian traditional dish, tumpeng rice. Those all symbolized the rich of Indonesian culture, nature and ethnics, which are firmly united under the “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”, the motto of Indonesia, which approximately means “Unity in Diversity”.
Mr. Umar Hadi, Indonesian chargé d’affaires at interim appreciated it very much as he addressed the attendees, that SIN Wassenaar had been able to organise such tremendous event successfully as well as supporting our government to promote Indonesia to the international world. He also explained the history of Sumpah Pemuda to the audience.
This event is also intended for the inauguration of “Kartini Bloemen Project” performed by Mr. Umar Hadi and Mrs. Nila Hadi. This project is supported by the Indonesia Embassy in the Hague by providing a large number of tulip bulbs as well as the fertilizers.
