“ASEAN GOES TO SCHOOL” AT SIN WASSENAAR
Wassenaar, 30 October 2014 — SIN Wassenaar was granted with a special opportunity to host “ASEAN goes to school” on Thursday, 30 October 2014. A team from our Embassy, the HOC a.i., Mrs. Vevie Damayanti and the Attaché of Education and Culture, Prof. Bambang Hari Wibisono accompanied the key speaker of the programme, Mr. Andrei Toar Marentek, the Coordinator of Economics Function of the Indonesian Embassy and one of his staff, Mrs. Agnes. For several years in the 70s Mr. Marentek studied at SIN Wassenaar.
On behalf of SIN Wassenaar, our Principal, Mr. Budi Wahyu Rianto commenced his welcoming address by expressing his gratitude to the delegation. Mr. Rianto then touched upon the magnitude of ASEAN and the opportunity it may create to its citizens and the global community in the coming years. He encouraged the students to prepare themselves to play active roles in the ASEAN Economic Community which will be effective as from 2015.
Meanwhile, in his turn as the Attaché, Prof. Wibisono challenged the audience to reverse the programme from “ASEAN goes to school” to “SIN Wassenaar/school goes to ASEAN”. The Attaché also express of his full support of such kind of beneficial programme. It reminded him of his personal experience joining the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme in 1986.
Subsequently Mr. Marentek convened his presentation on ASEAN from very comprehensive aspects. There were quizzes and questions-and-answers sessions. It was really valuable and our students followed the activity enthusiastically. It was closed with a typical Indonesian lunch.
