LECTURE ON ASEAN AT SIN WASSENAAR
Wassenaar Campus, 6 April 2011 — It’s such a privilege for SIN Wassenaar to host a lecture on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The lecture was delivered by Ms. Rumondang Lela Harahap, an official at the ASEAN Directorate General of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Back few years ago Ms. Harahap was a diplomat at our Embassy in The Hague, and it was like a reunion to receive her again at our school. Moreover, the current Director General of the Directorate, Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun, was the (ex-officio) Head of our school Supervisory Body.
The lecture revolved around “Indonesia’s Role in the Evolution of ASEAN” which covered the issues such as the genealogy of this regional block, the most recent progress and how Indonesia played its role as the largest national entity within the organisation, a look at its future, and how Indonesian younger generation can contribute in the ongoing development. The lecture was followed by a discussion with the students. It was an amazing opportunity to obtain and share information on ASEAN from the first-hand resource.
At the same occasion, SIN Wassenaar’s Director, Ms. Arbayah Kumalawati, was very confidence that the lecture would help widening students’ horizon and perspective on ASEAN, which has become a Community recognised as a legal subject/personality in the global system.
