MY HEROES, MY IDOLS: THE HEROES’ DAY 2014
Wassenaar, 10 November 2014 — SIN Wassenaar commemorated the 69th “Heroes’ Day” on Monday morning, 10 November 2014. In is address, our Principal, Mr. Budi Wahyu Rianto emphasised on the roles of Indonesian heroes fighting for Indonesia’s independence and defending the newborn nation in 1945. The Heroes’ Day is annually to commemorate specifically the struggle of Indonesians against the Allied Forces during The Battle of Surabaya which started on 10 November 1945, and Indonesian struggle against colonialism in general. The theme for this year’s anniversary is “Pahlawanku, Idolaku” (literally: My Heroes, My Idols”).
Mr. Rianto also informed the audience that on 7 November 2014 Indonesian Government based on Presidential Decision No. 115 TK 2014 awarded and recognised 4 new heroes , namely.
1. KH Abdul Wahab Chasbullah
KH Chasbullah was one of the founders of the Nahdhatul Ulama (the largest Muslim organisation in Indonesia). He played a vital role in defending Indonesia’s independence.
2. Letjen (Pur) Djamin Gintings
Commencing his military career through a Japanese military officer training programme (Giyugun). He played prominent role during the War for Independence and the subsequent period.
3. Sukarni Kartodiwirjo
Mr. Kartodiwirjo was a phenomenal Indonesian Youth leader around Indonesian Proclamation of Independence in 1945.
4. Mr. HR Mohammad Mangoendiprojo
Mr. Mangoendiprojo was a descendant of a companion of Pangeran Diponegoro during the War of Java (1825-1830) against Dutch colonialism. He played active role during the War for Independence.
Closing his message Mr. Rianto trusted Indonesia to our students as part of Indonesia’s next leaders, to contribute to the nation from wherever they are. He encouraged them to join the Indonesian Diaspora club.
