PRIMARY STUDENTS VISIT MUSEUM DE GEVANGENPOORT, THE HAGUE
The Hague — Regular students of SIN Wassenaar’s Primary School took part in the field-trip and contextual learning programme visiting the Museum de Gevangenpoort (Prison Gate Museum) in The Hague, Tuesday, 27 March 2012. Built in 1280, it had functioned as a prison since 1428. Located in the inner part of The Hague city square, a stone’s throw away from the Parliament complex, it has operated as a museum as of 1882. Among the famous Dutch who were incarcerated in this prison included the Dutch politician, Cornelis de Witt, and the theologian cum philosopher and writer, Dirk Volckertszoon Coornhert.
At the museum the students were guided, while learning and discussing about the related history, and system of justice and punishment in the medieval period in The Netherlands. During the programme they were accompanied by our Director, Ms. Arbayah Kumalawati, and two teachers: Ms. Dessy and Ms. Yayu.
