RIJNLANDS LYCEUM, INDONESIAN SCHOOL, AMERICAN SCHOOL AND SCOUTS TELL ABOUT FIRE FIGHTING
On the occasion of the birthday of Jan van der Heijden, 17th century inventor and painter, Brandweer museum Wassenaar organized an International Day on Sunday March 8th. Students of three schools researched and presented about fire fighting in their home country. Rijnlands students presented about the famous inventor of the use of hoses for the fire-engine Jan van der Heijden and American School students about firefighting in Burkina Faso. The scouts did it about 9/11 and about fire fighting in the USA. Indonesian School students talked about present day fire fighting in The Netherlands and about fire fighting in Indonesia. Well prepared and full of enthusiasm they told their stories in English to an interested audience in the Raadzaal of De Paauw.
Mayor Jan Hoekema complimented the students at the end of the meeting. The Scouts performed games on the lawn in front of De Paauw, including tug-of-war with fire hoses. A nice and unique event, educational and informative for presenters and audience. Photo: Anton Overklift.
