“RUJAK PARTY” OF SIN WASSENAAR’S PRIMARY STUDENTS
Wassenaar Campus — As planned, our primary school’s students held a “Rujak Party” on Monday morning, 18 April 2011. It was a practical activity for the children learning how to prepare an Indonesian traditional fruit and vegetable salad dish as a life skill.
Each student including the two teachers had to bring certain kind of fruit or vegetable, and the required ingredients. In the newly renovated school kitchen cum canteen, Rasya, Hannah, Rakha, Jasmijn, Sein, Diana, Glen and Carlo guided and supervised by Ms. Dessy dan Ms. Ririn were enthusiastically finishing their own job, from slicing the fruits, mashing the dressing materials, and eventually mixing the salad altogether.
The kids were very excited to prove the taste of their own delicious work. Some portion of it was presented to the teachers, and it proved to be very tasty. We hope that this new skill will be very beneficial for our young generation, as rujak is a cuisine legacy of Indonesia.
