SIN WASSENAAR CELEBRATES “YOUTH PLEDGE” 2012 WITH BTI EXHIBITION

Wassenar Campus — SIN Wassenaar celebrated the 84th anniversary of the Indonesian Youth Pledge 1928 with the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Exhibition, organised at our campus, on Monday, 29 October 2012. This programme was also attended by the representatives of our partner school: CANDEA College, Duiven; and friend schools:  German International School of The Hague and American School of The Hague.

In her welcoming speech, SIN Wassenaar’s Director, Ms. Arbayah Kumalawati touched the history of Indonesian unity and the Youth Pledge’s role in setting up this feeling of as a nation. SIN Wassenaar, according to Ms. Kumalawati, wished to share this celebration with our friends from different nations and introduce some aspects of Indonesia to our international friends; while at the same time to remind our students and school community about the urgency to maintain a united Indonesia which is implied by the term “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”. Ms. Kumulawati also welcomed and paid gratitude to our present guests.

Afterwards, the Attache of Education and Culture of the Indonesian Embassy, Mr. Ramon Mohandas, addressed the audience about the Youth Pledge in 1928, Bhinneka Tinggal Ika, and their contribution to Indonesian independence of 1945.

The programme organised in such a way that in general it introduced Indonesia. There was a presentation of nasi tumpeng, traditional costumes parade, Balinese dance, piano and singing performance, and a gamelan workshop. During the gamelan workshop, the Director of the American School, Dr. Spradling actively took part, in turn with one of his teachers and a group of students, and the students from CANDEA College. It is also completed with class islands presenting Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java and Bali, dan Sulawesi islands; and of course with the Indonesian typical dishes, food and drinks.

We hope this activity will lead to a better international understanding, and eventually educational and cultural collaborations for mutual benefits.
