SIN WASSENAAR SOLEMNLY COMMEMORATES “NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY” 2009
Wassenaar — Monday, 4th of May 2009, SIN Wassenaar commemorates the National Education Day during the weekly flag ceremony. Still in the series of the celebration, on Friday last week we organised a barbeque.
The date of commemoration is every 2nd May which is attributed to the date of birth of Ki Hadjar Dewantara, whose real name was Raden Mas Soewardi Soerjaningrat. Born to the royal family of the Yogyakarta Palace, Ki Hadjar is the national hero in the area of education. During the Dutch colonial period in Indonesia, he was well-known for his “Taman Siswa” schools that he established to promote national education which focused on nurturing nationalism and strove for independent Indonesia.
At our school this morning, the commemoration was embedded in the usual ceremony. The only modification was, however, the addressing of the 9-page speech of the Minister of National Education, Mr. Bambang Sudibyo by our Director, Mr. Saidan.
The theme of this year’s National Education Day’s commemoration is “Pendidikan Sains,Teknologi dan Seni Menjamin Pembangunan Berkelanjutan dan Meningkatkan Daya Saing Bangsa” ( The Sciences, Technologies and Arts Educations Secure the Sustainable Developments and Improve the Nation’s Competitiveness ). Many achievements in the field of education were also mentioned in the speech. We feel proud of them.
We were back to our class after the ceremony.
