TESTING SIN WASENAAR’S SENSE OF SPORTIVENESS AND HUMANITY
Last Saturday on 5th December 2009 we from SIN Wassenaar participated in Nijmegen Sport Day Cup organised by the Indonesian Students Association (PPI) of Arnhem Chapter to raise some funds to relieve the suffering of the victims of West Sumatra earthquake. Our school sent 10-delegates team to participate in futsal and basketball competitions. The city of Nijmegen is located about 140 km from The Hague/Wassenaar.
Setting out our team from the Indonesian Embassy – The Hague, SIN’s Director, Mr. Saidan, advised our team to maintain fair-play in the matches, keep high sportiveness, honesty and friendship above all. We were requested to gain optimum experience from this sport cum humanitarian activities.
In the morning we set off to go to Nijmegen at 8.30 am with several KBRI staff who also joined the competition. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to go to Nijmegen. We arrived a little bit late for about 45 minutes so we didn’t catch the technical meeting which was very important and also we missed the polling session. So the organiser needed to re-make our schedule for 3 times. One of the organisers said that the schedule of basketball would be held after all of futsal games, so all of us decided to change our clothes into futsal uniforms. When we asked another organiser who said that wasn’t true, and the basketball first game still would be held at 11.45 am. Then we had to change our clothes to basketball uniforms.
The first game was basketball and we lost against Eindhoven with the score 24-6. After a 5-minute break we started the futsal game so we had to change our clothes only in 2 minutes.
We rushed to the 2nd hall and started to warm up. The first game of futsal was against Den Haag Perbokil. When the game started we did a really good job both on defending and the offensive. We played draw in 1st game with score 1-1. Edwin was the player who scored for our team.
Then we had to change our clothes back to basketball uniforms. In the 2nd game against Arnhem we also lost 14-5.
After the basketball match we had to change our clothes back to futsal uniforms. The 2nd match of futsal was against Deventer, we won 4-0, where Edwin scored 2, Habib scored 1, and 1 goal made by Mahardika. After the match we searched the organiser and asked if we had another futsal game. They said we did have 1 more for about in 10 minutes. So we warmed up while we waited. The game started against Enschede; during the game all of us were already exhausted. So we lost 2-0 against Enschede. But we still have 1 more basketball game but all of us were already exhausted because we hadn’t get any food to eat because we weren’t provided sufficient time to eat and the schedule was too tight. So we lost our last basketball game against ISS by 12-8.
Although our team didn’t yet win any place but we would not blame or complain anybody because we were still able to gain a lot of experience, new friends, and contribution to a humanitarian fund-raising event. For this beautiful opportunity of social and educational learning we are greatly grateful to our school. Then we all headed home with KBRI staff at 20.00 pm.
